Plant science: The chestnut resurrection

Recommended Posts

A very interesting article on the plight and latest successes of the American Chestnut. I planted about 100 of these trees on our forestry units and a few in my yard about 6 years ago and they are already bearing nuts. The potential size and stature of these majestic trees is amazing as the 102 year old photo shows. :happy34:

There's a guy about 8 miles from me that has a chestnut orchard. This time of year he opens it to the public for "you pick". He also sells them at a farm market that's nearly next door to him...

I do go to the market, but i never have bought any of the nuts.

I don't know if any of you have ever had the chance to do anything with the wood from a chestnut tree. It's nice stuff to work with, I hope that they can bring the tree back.
