fuel filter question

Recommended Posts

I have a YM135 and was thinking of spring. :04: Anyone have an idea of how often I should change the fuel filter? It is running fine and I don't see any "gunk" in the fuel filter bowl but I didn't know if I should change it as a part of regular maintenance.

Can't hurt but will say I've had my Yanmar for 5-6 yrs and have never changed my fuel filter but have only put a little over 100 hrs on it in that time. Have not had any issues so far. I'd be most concerned about moisture in the tank collecting in the filter then working its way down into the injector pump.

Not sure if your model uses the same filter as mine but both Purolator and Wix have P/N listings for it.

Thanks Mickey. I when I bought the tractor a couple years ago I ordered a supply of oil and fuel filters from Hoye and noticed that I am out of oil filters after changing it this past fall but had another fuel filter. That got be wondering if I should change it too. I don't recall what the manufacturers recommendation is.

I think there are two available (a short and long one). Wix has the best cross-over for OEM filter look-up.

Here is the one listed for the YM135....same one I use on the YM1300 and YM1401:

http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=33262

WIX oil filter:

http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=51064

WIX link for your YM135:

The 33262 crosses over to a Baldwin PF 937

The 51064 crosses over to a Baldwin B 179

If you order these filters by the case of 12 from BF Web Express:

http://www.bfwebexpress.com/

The PF 937 costs $7.80 each

The B179 costs $5.15 each

That would total out at $155.40 plus about $16 shipping.

Thanks for the info Shartel and Randy. I will have to stock up on the filters. Any idea on the manufacturers recommendation on changing the fuel filter?

A compilation from several dealers and websites is:

100 hours for fuel and seasonal (50 hours) for oil and *air cleaner. Also, 100 hours for internal screen cleaning and replacing the hydraulic fluid in your reservoir.

* Critical fit air filters are best replaced with OEM Yanmar parts.
